News and a search for an impossible to locate pattern

So the reason for my absence/why I didn’t make it all the way through Me Made May/why I haven’t sewn in 2 weeks has to do with those awesome/horrid hormones responsible for that first trimester.  I’m due Christmas Eve!  We’re excited, but I am very very tired.  I’m starting to get a little more energy, but it’s slow going, and right now, I’m content to be able to cook dinner–something I couldn’t do with either Sam nor Noah because I was so morning sick with both of them.  No morning sickness this time, just the tired…Like when Olympia, the wind up doll from Les Contes d’Hoffman falls over in the middle of her aria and has to be wound up again tired.

I can tell I’m starting to get a little more energy though because I’m starting to plan a little.  I snagged an old Ottobre on Ebay that has a great camisole pattern and a cowl neck.  I think the cowl would be great for a fast and easy copy of this White House/Black Market tee.

What a great summery basic, right?

Also really really high on my list are these maternity pants from Burda.

I love the princess seams in front and back and how go with everything these pants seem like they would be.  This came out a few years ago, but it’s sadly OOP and I’ve seriously been checking Ebay and Etsy nearly every day for about 4 months and it has not appeared even once.  Does anyone have this, and can I buy it from you?  You can name the baby Rumplestiltskin style–just kidding, but I almost want this pattern that badly.

I’m looking forward to getting sewing again.

  5. Current season patterns don’t come out in Oz as soon as they do in the US but I’ll keep an eye out for it. Meanwhile keep checking these guys. They have lots of sales and they sell pdf patterns for pretty much every company (licensed) and their shipping’s not bad for the US (it’s crap for Oz but you’re not in Oz so.. XD)

  6. Ok someone’s already mentioned that XD never mind..

  7. That’s the best reason to stop any challenge! Congratulations. How wonderful and all the best to both of you.

  8. Congratulations! I well remember that uberfatigue. Now you have some new kind of sewing to tackle!

E, when I was expecting I had a yen for these trousers too, but the blog reviews were so-so. It calls for a lycra stretch fabric to pull it off, a stretch denim isn’t enough for full bloom pregnancy. So it’s like wearing yoga pants to wear for the full pg, or those who made it in mega-stretch twill had baggy knees at the end fo the day (you could fix that by sewing in twill tape at the front knee). Stetch twill isn’t stretchy enough for the later pg, and you’ll pop a little earlier since it’s #3–keep in mind. But if you want the pattern, it’s not hard to do: take princess seam trousers pattern for stretch fabrics in your hip size and add an elogated triangle-shaped wedge, like a doorstop shape, to the upper front, then gently round the front waist upward to fit over the belly arch. It could be prudent to straighten the front side seam from the hip upward too. Otherwise, a front dart trouser pattern will do; by cutting the pattern at the dart (see the FFRP tutorial on how to turn a dart into a princess seam), luckily you don’t have to be terribly precise on top around the dart as you’ll be adding in trinagle wedges. Happy sewing, one step at a time. Oh I highly recommend Rita’s Rump Pocket (free pdf) for a OS nappy, it’s fantastic! Email me for how I altered it if you’re interested.

  16. Wait…..WHAT??!!! I have been soooo out of the loop lately!!! SOOOO HAPPY for you….WOW!!! Congratulations….maybe time for a girl?? Take it easy!! xo
